Chatham-Kent OPP are warning motorists about removing ice and snow from their vehicles after ice from a tractor trailer crashed through the windshield of a vehicle on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent on Saturday.

A large piece of ice hangs over the end of the trailer roof on this transport truck. Another piece blew off the trailer damaging a vehicle that following behind on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent on Saturday, February 2, 2019. (Handout/Chatham Daily News)

OPP said a vehicle was travelling west when a large piece of ice blew off a tractor trailer going the same direction and struck the windshield around 11 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the damaged made the vehicle inoperable and it was towed from the highway.

OPP said a 43-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with an insecure load under the Highway Traffic Act.

Failing to remove ice and snow from a motor vehicle can result in a fine, but more importantly, could result in serious injury or death to other motorists, OPP warns.
