Defending champions Future Pinelands are clearly eyeing their second consecutive Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Summer Jam Under-19 title after scoring another impressive win this time 109-23 over Northside Ballers last night at the Pine, St Michael hardcourt.
Ballers continue to have a horrific time on court and Pinelands with a quality attack comprising several national players schooled their opposition and spared no mercy with consecutive successful shots whether inside the key or outside the three-point semicircle.
The Charles Vanderpool-coached Pinelands youth team got off to a commanding start as they dominated 37-12, 69-17 and 90-17 in the first three stanzas. Ballers’ young inexperienced team will need to work a lot harder on their craft to stand any chance against quality teams such as Pinelands, Young Men’s Christian Association Wildcats, Lakers and Kolij Lions among a few.

Pinelands’ center Sadiq Browne registered a game-high 24 points while point guards Deroni Hurley tallied 20 points inclusive of four treys. Michael Tannis had 16 points, captain Rasheed Maynard scored 14 and small forward Kiserian Adams registered 15.
Defensively Pinelands were strong, and they intercepted close to 90 per cent of the passes attempted by Ballers who did not register a single point in the penultimate period.
Hurley and Tannis played as though they were at practice with not a care in the world as they made shooting look so easy by freeing their arms especially outside the arch and had lots of fun while doing so. Browne with his best individual quarter score of 14, along with Adams used their length to drive through Ballers’ defence with ease.

Game two was also a blowout as Wildcats trounced Clapham Bulls 59-19 (19-4, 32-7, 43-19) as coach Carlos Moore and his team controlled the majority of ball possession and denied Bulls a single point in the decisive fourth quarter.
Wildcats star player Deveron Knight topped the night with a game-high 27 points as the six-footer showed great skills inside the paint and muscled Bulls’ defence relentlessly. Knight was the only player to score double digits as the next best score of eight came through Kemar Benn and Joshua King six.
Just like Ballers, Bulls are clearly struggling talent-wise and Wildcats might have gotten away with a one-man show compliments of Knight. But when they face off against teams like Pinelands, Lakers and even Kolij they are going to need a collective effort if they are to emerge victoriously.
Bulls’ captain Joshua Gibbs totalled 12 points which were the highest individual score for his team. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb
