KINGSTOWN, St Vincent – Leg-spinner Camarie Boyce grabbed five wickets and tore through Trinidad and Tobago’s lower order to lead Barbados to victory when the second round of the Regional Under-19, 50-over Championship continued here Saturday.
Led by opener Shian Brathwaite’s knock of 72, Barbados ended on 193 for seven in 43 overs, after a downpour had seen the number of overs being reduced.
Set a revised target of 209 under the Duckworth Lewis System, T&T were coasting at 138 for four at one point, before Boyce claimed the final four wickets for just two runs to dismiss them for just 149.
With T&T battling on 139 for five, Shemar Prescod trapped Joshua James lbw for 11.
Boyce then accounted for the wickets of Rivaldo Ramlogan (5), Avinash Mahabirsingh (1), Jayden Seales (3) and Justyn Gangoo for one, to send them crashing to defeat.
Earlier Brathwaite, along with fellow opener Mekhail Marshall (29) gave Barbados a good start by adding 67 runs for the first wicket.
Even though there was a bit of a middle order collapse which saw them losing four wickets for 32 runs, Matthew Forde, who finished unbeaten on 24 and Joshua Bishop who made 19 not out, ensured they would post a competitive total.
There were also wins for the Windward Islands and Jamaica over the Leeward Islands and Canada respectively.
The Windwards easily overhauled the Leewards’ total of 155 for nine in their 43 overs, finishing on 156 for four in 33.3 overs.
Opener Kimani Melius scored an aggressive 65 off just 53 balls, hitting four boundaries and five sixes to jumpstart the Windwards’ run chase.
Jamaica wasted no time in dismissing Canada, limiting them to a paltry 91 for eight in 30 overs, before rushing to their revised target of 99 for the loss of just three wickets in 20.5 overs.
Carlos Brown, who scored 37 not out and Andre McCarthy who finished unbeaten on 36, shared an unbroken stand of 54 for the fourth wicket to guide Jamaica to victory.
