Former officer convicted of murdering unarmed black teen

The jury in Texas delivered a rare guilty verdict

AN EX-POLICE officer has been convicted of murdering an unarmed teenager who he fatally shot last year.

Roy Oliver, who is white, fired his weapon at 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, an African-American, as he made his way from a house party in a car with friends.

Jurors in Texas delivered their guilty verdict yesterday, the second day of deliberations.

According to CNN, when the verdict was read out, Edwards’ family gasped and shed tears.

Having opened fire on the car with a rifle, Oliver’s actions violated federal guidelines.
