A Chatham neurologist facing 20 charges, including two counts of assault with a weapon, will make a bail appearance on Sept. 5.
Dr. Awad Mortada appeared Monday via audio link in a Chatham courtroom.
He’s being represented by defence attorney David Jacklin. There is a publication ban prohibiting evidence from being published.
Mortada is a physician at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. He also operates a private practice.

Previously published reports state Mortada is charged with 10 counts of uttering a threat to cause death to four people between Feb. 18 and June 10 and between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, 2001.
He’s also charged with seven counts of assault against two people between March 1 and June 10, 2018, and Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, 2001.
An assault causing bodily harm charge was laid against Mortada for an alleged incident on or about June 10.
He also faces two separate charges of assault with a weapon, one dating between March 1 and April 30, allegedly involving a pillow, and another allegedly involving a knife that dates between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, 2001.
All of the offences are alleged to have occurred in Chatham-Kent.
Three hours were set aside to deal with the matter on Sept. 5.
Mortada joined the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in 2017.
