William “Smokey” Burke is out of hospital intensive care after two-and-a-half weeks, sources close to the ailing entertainer have confirmed.
“Yes, there has been an improvement and he is out of the ICU,” a family member told Barbados TODAY on condition of anonymity. This was later confirmed by a fellow entertainer who said he was now allowed hospital visits.
But he remains seriously ill in hospital as he fights an undisclosed illness.
In the weeks that followed since he was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 29, the veteran crooner had showed glimmers of hope.
Now he has been removed from ICU to Ward C10, normally reserved for the seriously ill.
Burke missed out on challenging the Crop Over calypso monarchy in the August 3 Pic-O-De-Crop Finals. The acclaimed singer-songwriter had hoped to performed two of his original compositions, Conversations With Bussa and Where De Money Gone?
