Chatham Terry Fox Run slated for Sept. 16

With the Chatham Terry Fox Run slated to take place Sept. 16, the event has a new co-ordinator in charge.

Tara Pettipiece stepped into the role just over two weeks ago, admitting it has been a “whirlwind” with a learning curve.

However, she appreciated the opportunity to assist the important cause.

“I thought I’d try and help out the community,” she said on Thursday. “It’s a tremendous organization and it’s long-standing. I wanted to see it continue.”

This year’s event will take place at the field house patio on Courthouse Lane by Chatham’s mini soccer fields and the Children’s Treatment Centre. Washrooms are available on-site.

Pettipiece said in previous years about 200 participants have shown up.

“We’re kind of hoping to maintain that,” she said.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the run starting at 10 a.m. There will be a 1 km, 5 km and 10 km route.

Participants can also register and collect pledges online at terryfox.org Volunteers and sponsors are still needed for the event. For further information, e-mail chathamterryfoxrun@gmail.com
