Furious son

A 21-year-old waiter has been remanded to prison after admitting to beating his mother.

Tre Akeem Shakeil Standford, of Block 103, Valerie, Brittons Hill, St Michael, pleaded guilty to assaulting Shirnell Stanford on September 3, occasioning her actual bodily harm.

Sergeant Cameron Gibbons told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant that the incident stemmed from a dispute over money.

During the argument the young man reportedly followed his mother into her bedroom where she picked up a cleaver while he armed himself with a knife.

He then proceeded to kick her to the left side of her body, causing her to fall onto the bed before she was beaten about the head and face repeatedly. His grandfather intervened and the mother subsequently called in police.

Standford was remanded until September 7 after both parties gave the magistrate their sides of what had occurred.
