Furnace fire at MSSC

The quick action of Chatham firefighters prevented a furnace fire at a Chatham factory from getting out of control and causing upwards of $1 million in damage.

Crews from Stations No. 1 and 2 were called to the MSSC factory at 201 Park Ave. E, just after 2 p.m. on Friday and found heavy white smoke coming from the roof of the factory, stated a media release from Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services.

Crews quickly entered the building then gained access to the roof to extinguish the large furnace on fire.

All employees quickly and safely evacuated the building and no injuries were reported, said the CKFES.

The fire, which is deemed accidental, caused approximately $35,000 damage. However, an estimated $1 million in property was saved, said the CKFES.
