John ordered to pay $800 in two months

A 56-year-old man, who pleaded guilty to having cocaine paraphernalia in his possession on September 2, has been given two months to pay $800.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant imposed the fine on Albert Augustine John, of Holders Land, Brandon’s, St Michael, in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court.

On the day in question, police were in the area of Kings Village Road, St Michael, when they spotted the accused, who was wanted in connection with another criminal matter.

They approached him and a search was requested which he consented to. A small bottle, with one end broken and wire mesh attached to the other end, containing a white substance, suspected to be the contraband, was discovered.

“Yes officer that is mine,” the accused reportedly told lawmen at the time when
asked to account for the apparatus.

However, appearing before the magistrate, John, who is known to the law courts, denied breaking into a car and stealing a mobile phone and other personal items.

“Police arrived and search me and they found the apparatus on me, but I did not go in nobody’s car,” he said before the fine was imposed.

Failure to settle the amount by November 5 will land him in jail for six months.
