Dublin: A coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death on Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of Irish rock group The Cranberries, after hearing on Thursday she had died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication. The 46-year-old singer was found submerged in the bathtub in her London hotel room in January after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol. O’Riordan, whose hits “Linger” and “Zombie” catapulted her to fame as a 22-year-old, had been in London on a recording trip ahead of a planned tour. Reuters
World’s largest offshore wind farm opens
LONDON: The world's largest offshore wind farm is to open off the northwest coast of England with Danish energy group Orsted unveiling the Walney Extension project. The wind farm has a capacity of 659, enough to power almost 600,000 homes. Walney Extension is made up of 87 turbines and covers 145 square kilometres. Britain is the world’s largest offshore wind market, hosting 36 per cent of globally installed offshore wind capacity. Reuters
Burberry to stop burning unsold goods
LONDON: British luxury brand Burberry said it would no longer burn millions of pounds worth of unsold goods or use real fur in its collections after an uproar over its environmental credentials. The label, which is due to produce its first collection under new designer Riccardo Tisci, said it was committed to becoming more socially and environmentally responsible after it admitted burning 28.6 million pounds worth of goods in its last financial year. Guinness celebrates oldest trapeze artist
LONDON: An octogenarian flying trapeze artist, the owner of the world's fastest jet-propelled go-kart and a dog named Feather with a flair for jumping are among the record-breaking stars to win a place in the latest edition of Guinness World Records. Betty Goedhart, from California, has been named the world's oldest trapeze artist at 85. Goedhart only began trapeze classes at the age of 78 but looks as though she has spent a lifetime swinging through the air upside down. Reuters
