Teen in tears after being remanded

A Christ Church teen was reduced to tears in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court this afternoon when he was informed that he would be remanded to prison until October 5.

Addis Anasas Oneale, 17, of Block 5J St Matthias Housing Area, had pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Delbert Forde on September 2 occasioning him actual bodily harm.

According to the police report, Oneale struck Forde with a rock on the chest, causing an abrasion and other soft tissue damage, after the complainant asked him to behave himself. He then ran away and was arrested earlier today.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant was minded to offer Oneale bail until sentencing.

However, the teen, who had no one to post bail on his behalf, was not only disrespectful to the probation officer who was seeking to help him but also one of the court prosecutors.

“I don’t know what they are talking about . . . they telling lies!” Oneale exclaimed when asked by the magistrate to explain his behaviour.

“I did not disrespect nobody,” the young man maintained, as tears streamed down his face.
