The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has secured a contractor for the Third Street bridge repairs with an anticipated completion date of Nov. 2.
Due to safety precautions, officials closed the downtown Chatham bridge to traffic last month, when deterioration was found during an inspection.
Once the repairs have been made, all four lanes of the bridge will be reopened in a load posted state until rehabilitation works are planned in 2020.
“Pedestrian traffic will still be permitted on the bridge up to the start of the repair work,” the municipality stated in a media release.
“At that time, the bridge will be closed to all modes of transportation until the repairs are completed.”
