Weather Update: Tropical Depression #11 and Tropical Storm Kirk

Local forecasters continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Depression #11 and Tropical Storm Kirk.

At 5 a.m., the center of the poorly organized depression was located near 14.5 degrees north or about 320 miles east north-east of Barbados.

Maximum sustained winds are near 30 miles and it continues to move north west at six miles per hour.

Forecasters say the system is likely to dissipate within a day or two.

However, Barbados is likely to experience moderate to heavy showers and occasional gusty winds from the system as it moves across the island chain late Monday into Tuesday.

Meanwhile Tropical Storm Kirk is expected to speed up its movement over the next few days.

At 5 a.m., the center of the storm was located near 9.1 degrees north, 28.0 degrees west or about 465 miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 miles per hour and tropical storm winds extend up to 70 miles to the north of the center.

It is moving towards the west at 18 miles per hour.

The system is expected to be close to the Lesser Antilles by Thursday.
