Weather Watch – Tropical Depression Eleven

Tropical Depression Eleven has developed east of the Lesser Antilles.

At 5:00 a.m. the system was located near 13.0 north or 55.5 west or about 405 miles (650 kilometres) east of Barbados.

According to the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) the system is presently drifting towards the west near five miles per hour (seven kilometres per hour). A slow westward or west northwestward motion is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour (55 kilometres per hour) with higher gusts.

"Little change in strength is expected during the next 24 hours since strong westerly shear is expected to persist and will likely prevent the depression from getting any better organized.

"Thus, the Depression is forecast to dissipate to an open wave or an area of low pressure by Sunday night before it reaches the Lesser Antilles.

"Regardless of development, some isolated pockets of moderate to heavy showers and occasional gusty winds are still likely to affect Barbados by Monday, 24th September," the BMS said.
