The senior Church of England clergyman will step down from the position that he has held since 2005
THE ARCHBISHOP of York, Dr John Sentamu, has today announced that he will retire.
Sentamu, the UK’s first black archbishop, is due to step down from his role in 2020.
The exact date of the archbishop’s retirement will be Trinity Sunday, three days before his 71st birthday.
The Church of England’s second most senior clergyman, Sentamu has served in the role since 2005.
