When Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter Princess Eugenie walks down the aisle on Friday in Windsor Castle to marry Jack Brooksbank, a “commoner” with blue-blood friends, the critics will be out. The 28-year-old princess Eugenie, is the ninth in the long line of succession. One public petition protesting the wedding’s cost, the security bill is estimated at £2 million ($2.6 million), dismissed her as a “minor royal”. AFP
Pope says abortion is like hiring ‘contract killer’
Vatican City: Pope Francis on Wednesday compared having an abortion to hiring a “contract killer”. “Interrupting a pregnancy is like eliminating someone,” Francis said in an address to worshippers in the Vatican. “Getting rid of a human being is like resorting to a contract killer to solve a problem,” he added. “Is it just to resort to a contract killer to solve a problem?” His comments departed from the prepared text for his homily delivered during his weekly audience on Saint Peter’s Square. In his address, the Argentine pontiff complained of a “depreciation of human life”. AFP
Ivanka would be ‘dynamite’ as US envoy at UN: Trump
Washington: President Donald Trump said he was certain that his daughter Ivanka would be “dynamite” as the US envoy to the UN, but conceded that he would be accused of “nepotism” if he selected her to replace Indian-American Nikki Haley. As President Trump heaped praise on Haley’s performance during her tenure as the envoy to the world body, he said many people would like to replace her. Trump said that he expects to name a replacement for Haley in the next “two to three weeks,” and said that he would be talking about candidates with the former South Carolina governor and others. PTI
