Name: Doug Sulman
Age: 65
Residence: Chatham
Occupation: Lawyer
Political Experience: Elected as Kent County School Board trustee, Chatham alderman, chairman of police commission, currently Chatham-Kent councillor
“I wish to serve the people of our city by using my experience in local government, law and business to make Chatham-Kent cost efficient, safe, and a friendly place to live,” Sulman said of running again in Chatham Ward 6.
“In my time in elective office I have asked the tough questions, fought against unwise spending both in budgets and against things like buying a railroad,” he said. “I have taken a common-sense approach to civic issues and stood up time after time for you the people. Just one example being bringing a motion to give the citizens the vote on the size of municipal council.”
Sulman noted there are seven vacancies on council and the possibility of a rookie mayor.
“There are many tough complicated issues that the new council will face,” he said. “Now more than ever, Chatham-Kent will need experience, knowledge, leadership and common sense and I hope to provide those qualities in serving the people on the 2018-2022 council.”
