Schulz scores two winners as Maroons beat Kings, Nationals

Josh King and Eddie Schulz each scored twice for the Chatham Maroons in a 4-3 win over the Komoka Kings on Sunday.

Winning goalie Tristan Lewis made 21 saves in front of 832 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena.

On Saturday, the Maroons became the first team with a regulation win over the Nationals by rallying for a 5-2 victory in London.

The Maroons are 7-2-0-2 in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Western Conference.

King scored the tying goal against the Kings two minutes into the second period. Schulz and King tallied 27 seconds apart late in the frame for a 3-1 lead the Maroons wouldn’t lose.

Nolan Gardiner and Thomas Michaud each had two assists. Schulz had three points.

Kurt Watson, Liam Whittaker and Joel Mazzilli scored for the Kings (7-7-0-0). Owen Say made 24 saves.

Ex-Maroons head coach Ron Horvat has guided the Kings to four wins in their last six games. The two losses were against the Maroons.

On Saturday, Schulz had the winning goal and two assists before 494 fans at the Western Fair Sports Centre.

Rookie goalie Adam Harris held the Nationals scoreless in the final two periods to finish with 40 saves.

Matt Murray, Gardiner, Zach Power and Michaud also scored for the Maroons, who trailed 2-0 after the first period.

Noah Tooke and Christian Polillo scored for the Nationals (10-1-0-1). Zachary Springer made 27 saves.

Murray, on a power play, and Gardiner scored in the second period for a 2-2 tie.

Schulz scored the short-handed winner 48 seconds into the third.

Power added an insurance goal. Michaud potted another short-handed goal into an empty net.
