Barking dog alerts Chatham woman about intruder

A barking dog alerted a woman about a strange man who had entered her Chatham home Tuesday afternoon, Chatham-Kent police reports.

The woman called police as the man fled, but officers located him a short distance away and he was arrested, police said.

The 43-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter and released with conditions, pending a Dec. 21 court date.

Two men arrested on separate warrants

Chatham-Kent police arrested two men on Tuesday who were wanted on warrants in connection to separate incidents.

A 24-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested in connection with an assault in Wallaceburg last week, police said.

Police said the accused was charged with assaulting a man known to him.

He was released with conditions and a Dec. 19 court date.

Police said a 51-year-old Belle River man, who was released with a condition to not communicate with a specific Chatham woman, called the person on Nov. 6 on her cell phone and initiated a conversation.

Police said the accused turned himself in at police headquarters.

He was charged with failing to comply and transported to the court house pending a bail hearing. He was released with a Dec. 5 court date.

Break and enter

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a break and enter into a home on Caledonia Road in Chatham Township on Tuesday.

The items stolen included power tools, a Mac laptop and a red 2006 Honda motorcycle with Ontario licence plate 9772D.

Elgin OPP charge C-K man

A 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing several charges after Elgin OPP responded to a suspicious person call in the Gibb Line area in West Elgin around 6:30 a.m. Nov. 22.

OPP said when officers arrived on the scene, the accused had fled his vehicle that was stuck in a field.

Middlesex OPP assisted in locating the accused in Newbury.

As a result of the investigation to date, the accused is charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, theft under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments and drug possession.
