The Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) marked its 60th anniversary with a church service at Calvary Moravian Church, Roebuck Street, St Michael Sunday morning.
BGIS employees sang and danced to the call to worship which included popular songs such as Royal Telephone and Hallejuah.
Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Public Affairs Senator Lucille Moe in her brief address said that the agency would not have been able to reach the momentous milestone without the contributions of employees who have gone above and beyond.
“It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge that the road currently being travelled was paved by the hard work of those members of staff who worked at the Barbados Government Information Service over the years. This includes the past chief information officers,” she said.
Moe added that the BGIS has been privileged to have outstanding members of staff who have set the bar for the standard of the state-funded entity.
“There are many outstanding members of staff who set high standards for the department before using their experience gained at the information service to forge outstanding careers in other areas. Many of them have served as inspiration for the current staff which is a blend of experience and eager creative youth,” she said.
Senior Pastor of Calvary Moravian Church Rev Adrian Smith, reflecting on the theme Listen and Live, told the congregation that they had to listen to carry on a legacy.
“We must listen to preserve a legacy. We must listen to promote longevity. But finally, we must listen and practice love,” he said, adding that too often in our lives we listen to respond but not listen to understand. (LG)
