Bread shop hit by rum thief

The alarming spate of violent robberies continued on Monday afternoon at around 2:40 when at least one gunman stormed the Zephrin’s Bakery along Tudor Bridge, St Michael and made off with a bottles of alcholic beverages.

Though General Manager Kevin Waithe declined to comment on the incident, saying he would allow police to carry out their investigations, Barbados TODAY understands that the focus of the assailant’s heist was not on bread, but on premium alcoholic beverages.

One worker indicated the robber made off with bottles of Hennessey Cognac, along with Dewar’s Whiskey, ESAF Field Rum and an undisclosed sum of money.

Just last Thursday, 50-year-old Hayden Mayers was selling bread from his van in Mansion Road, Bank Hall when he was gunned down in an attempted robbery.

This was followed on Friday morning with a break-in at Cave Shepherd, Sunset Crest and continued Friday night at RB’s Rotisserie in Clapham Court Mall where two employees were robbed of personal effects and a sum of money. A few hours later, police were called out to another robbery at Kim’s Bar in Flat Rock, St George, where gunmen had made off with mobile phones, jewelry and money from five people.
