Flindt closes its doors

Customers hoping for the specialty cakes and pastries from the popular Patisserie & Bistro Flindt in Holetown, St James this holiday season will have to look elsewhere.

That is because after two decades “the changing climate” has forced the closure of the bakery and small restaurant known for its tasty treats with flamboyant designs.

In a notice on Monday, the family-operated business, simply known as Flindt, made the announcement, while citing “many challenges” including internal and external factors as the main reason for shutting shop.

It was not immediately known how many workers would be displaced as a result of the closure.

Barbados TODAY made numerous attempts to reach Owner Carsten Flindt, but was unsuccessful.

However, in a signed note posted on social media today Flindt said it was with “much regret and sadness” that he was announcing the closure of the establishment.

“For the past 20 years we at Patisserie & Bistro Flindt have strived to create a quality product, while providing exemplary service, all in effort to give you an exceptional experience,” he said.

Flindt pointed out that despite several attempts including “considerable personal investments”, the challenges simply outweighed the efforts to stay afloat.

“We have had many challenges along the way and have fought hard to overcome them... However, with the changing climate and other internal and external factors, we have finally hit a dead end,” said Flindt.

“In closing, we wish to thank you, our friends and loyal customers for all your invaluable support over the past 20 years. We truly appreciate your business and friendship and the management team will deeply miss you all,” he added.

Flindt, which was especially known for its decadent cakes, which could cost as much as $350, also served breakfast and lunch and a range of custom orders of canapés, sandwiches and baguettes, cupcakes, salads and pastas.

The bakery also offered interactive cooking classes.
