The name John N. Given will remain on the building of a former Chatham public elementary school that now houses alternative education programs.
Trustees with the Lambton Kent District School Board approved the new name John N. Given Learning Centre during Tuesday’s board meeting in Chatham.
The name was recommended by an ad hoc committee that was formed to rename the former John N. Given Public School that closed at the end of June. The student body has been consolidated with Tecumseh Public School in Chatham.
The school has been repurposed for alternative programs, including LKDSB’s Adult & Continuing Education program and alternative special education programs, such as the Positive Alternative to Suspension from School program, which offers educational programming to students who require an alternative to a classroom setting.
Space is also available for community partnerships.
