The appointment of veteran broadcaster Carol Roberts as Chief Executive of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), is no political favor, says Minister of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, John King.
“She has all the things that I need,” said King as he endorsed her appointment 24 hours after taking up her new position at the West Terrace. St. James headquarters of the foundation.
In September this year, former CEO Cranston Browne accepted a separation package after serving in the position since April 2013. The NCF had since advertised for a replacement.
During an interview with Barbados TODAY, the culture Minister stressed that Roberts was determined to be “the best person for the job” after her application was considered by the NCF’s board.
While acknowledging that Robert’s work with the Barbados Labor Party during this year’s election campaign could raise some questions about whether such an appointment was politically motivated, he said that such assumptions held no validity.
“For those persons who want to make her appointment into some sort of a political gimmick, as I said before I know it went through the process. The people who have endorsed her know that it went through the process and we are very happy to move forward… There was a process and Ms. Roberts was the best candidate in the minds of the persons who had to make the decision,” he maintained.
“If there’s one thing that I know, is that no matter what you do in this world, some people will oppose, justifiably so, and some will just oppose for opposing sake,” he said.
Roberts signed off her popular morning show on at Starcom Network last Friday.
