Rule the catwalk

From the third segment of the 2018 edition of the annual model competition, Runway Blitz, themed In The Beginning, it was very apparent the winners would be Kaveh Holder and Amber Williams. Holder and Williams were crowd favourites but their professionalism, confidence and effortlessness on the catwalk earned them the titles of 2018 Mr & Ms Runway Blitz.

Holder walked away with heavy hands last Saturday night at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC). Aside from the title, he also won People’s Choice Male, Challenge Winner, Best Lust Male and Best Beckoning Our Ancestors. His queen also received an award for Best Lust Female.

First runners up were Rashaun Alleyne and Kiann Conliffe and second runners up were Christopher Blades and Veria Walcott. Walcott copped prizes for Best Print Model, Challenge Winner Female and an Award of Excellence.

The show began at 8 p.m. sharp with the ten young hopefuls ranging from ages 16 to 21 introducing themselves to a packed auditorium. The first segment titled Lust, featured the models in lingerie. Sixteen-year-old Amya Howard was the only plus-sized model on the stage and she made the big girls proud. Dressed in a black and red teddy suspended with black stockings and a red cape, Howards slowly and seductively walked down the catwalk. Well aware of her curvaceous figure, she cheekily winked at the judges when she reached the end.

Meanwhile, crowned King Holder turned heads in his red and blue BDSM ensemble that included a mesh crop top and shorts.

Although Cheyanna Burnett-Griffith didn’t place in the top three, she stole People’s Choice Female and Best Beckoning Our Ancestors Female with her beautiful African print crinoline dress and a huge afro. Veria Wallcott’s self-conceptualized design for the theme Beckoning Our Ancestors was also stunning. Despite being short, the petite model stood out with her overwhelming stage presence and limitless confidence.

The other contestants were Ramona Linton, Josiah Beckles, Demio Perry, Kobia Hamblin and Rashaun Holder.

The show included five segments featuring outfits from Cave Shepherd, Cher Designs and Trinidadian fashion designer, Kirby Young. (KK)
