Suspects caught

Police have arrested four men, as they announce a breakthrough in their probe into the shock killing of a bread vendor as he plied his trade in Bank Hall last week

Hayden Mayers, 50, was gunned down Thursday at Mansion Rd, Bank Hall.

Police have formally charged four St Michael men - Kishmar Young, 20, of Chase Gap, Halls Road; Wayne Bryan, 17, of School Lane, Halls Road; Romario Daisley, 18, of Tramore Lane, Waterford and Rashon Sealy, 18, of Alleyne Land, Bush Hall St. Michael, with the bread man’ murder.

All four accused were also jointly charged with three counts of robbery.

They are due to appear in the District “A” Magistrates’ court on Thursday.

Mayers, a bread and pastry vendor, was shot by masked men as he sold from his bread van in the densely-populated Mansion Road, Bank Hall district.

With his death, Barbados recorded its 24th murder for the year.

Niece Rashida Mayers witnessed the killing, during which the masked men walked up to the van, and said “bread man give over the money”.

Before he could remove the bag from around his waist he was shot in the chest.

“Them ain’t get no bag, no money, no nothing. Them kill my uncle for nothing,” Mayers, a primary school teacher said.  All my aunt (Monica) could have done was scream and shout.”

On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays nights, her uncle moved around various areas, selling bread. On Sundays, he would be accompanied by her and on the other two days, his sister Monica would sell alongside him. Monica was doing just that when he was gunned down.
