TWO BRONZE statues – one a Hausa soldier, beside him an Igbo carrier – stand on a plinth of stone.
A plaque beneath reads, “In honoured memory of the Soldiers and Carriers of Nigeria who gave their lives in the two World Wars.”
Along with 1,158 Nigerians who died in the Second World War, the Abuja Memorial honours 947 Nigerians who died during the First World War.
Yes, tens of thousands of Nigerians played their part in the First World War and thousands lost their lives.
