The Chatham-Kent Diverse City Party is being held in Wallaceburg on Saturday to provide people a chance to experience the variety of cultures in the community through performance and cuisine.
“After the success of the event in previous years, we are thrilled to be able to host this event for a third straight year,” said Jason Stubitz, projection co-ordinator of the Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership in a written release.
“Fostering social inclusion and celebrating cultural diversity in any city or town is important, and we are happy we are able to do this in Chatham-Kent,” he added.
Audrey Ansell, manager of community attraction and promotion, said, a written release, “Over 60 languages are spoken in Chatham-Kent, so we are a culturally rich community.
“As we work toward the goals of CK Plan 2035 and to attract and retain residents, event such as this are vital in helping us celebrate the essence and fabric of our community – our people and their heritage.”
The event is being held at the Canadian Belgium Dutch Club, 1352 Dufferin Ave. from 1-3:30 p.m.
Performances are scheduled by the Portuguese Club’s Folklore Group, Cornell School of Irish Dance, the Chatham-Kent Asian Cultural Association, and Bkejwanong Walpole Island First Nations.
Admission to the event is free. There is also the option to sample cultural foods, provided by Mr. Shawarma, Bangkok Cafe, A1 Chinese Restaurant and James Street Eatery for a cost of $5.
