BBC News appoint first LGBT correspondent

The corporation's Africa presenter Ben Hunte will start the new role in January

BBC AFRICA presenter Ben Hunte has been appointed as the first ever LGBT correspondent for BBC News.

It’s not the first time Hunte has been at the centre of a historic development at the corporation. He is the current presenter of the BBC’s first TV programme and digital service for children in Africa, What’s New?

In a tweet, Hunte described the news as a “dream come true”.

He wrote: “Dream come true! So excited to get started as the BBC’s first LGBT correspondent and tell some important stories.”
