Museum of Black Civilisations opens in Senegal

This will be the world’s largest museum dedicated to black civilizations

SENEGAL is launching the Museum of Black Civilisations - the largest of its kind in the world.

The museum, the idea of which was first broached more than 50 years ago, has been made possible as a result of $20 million (£16 million) of Chinese investment, and received an inauguration from Senegalese President Macky Sall in the capital of Dakar.

The Museum of Black Civilisation includes works and artifacts from artists across Africa including Mali and Burkina Faso and follows calls from several African nations for France to return art looted during the colonial era.
