Austin: The locomotive was painted to resemble Air Force One, but George HW Bush joked that if it had been around during his presidency, he may have preferred to ride the rails rather than take to the skies. "I might have left Air Force One behind," Bush quipped during the 2005 unveiling of 4141, a blue and gray locomotive commissioned in honour of the 41st president and unveiled at Texas A&M University. On Thursday, that same 4,300-horsepower machine will carry Bush's casket, along with relatives and close friends, for around 113 km. It will deliver the casket from suburban Houston to College Station. There, a motorcade will take Bush to his presidential library at the university, where he will be laid to rest at a private ceremony next to his wife, Barbara, who died in April, and his daughter. AP
Extinction warning for Australia's 'rat kangaroo'
Sydney: A truffle-eating Australian marsupial known as the rat kangaroo has suffered a dramatic population decline and could become extinct without urgent action to save the species, a report warned on Thursday. The World Wildlife Fund said only two pbettong populations remained in the wet coastal tropics of northern Queensland state, numbering at most 2,500 individuals, down 70 per cent in the past 30 years. Cambodian surrogate mothers released on bail
phnom penh: More than 30 Cambodian women paid to carry babies for Chinese clients have been released on bail after agreeing to keep the children, officials said Thursday, as the country tightens its grip on the illegal but lucrative surrogacy trade. The women were charged with human trafficking after they were discovered in June during a raid on a surrogacy business in capital Phnom Penh. Cambodia banned surrogacy in 2016. AFP
