A MAN who was arrested by police in Illinois and accused of stealing what was in fact his own car has is set to receive a $1.25 million settlement.
Lawrence Crosby was a 25-year-old PhD student at Northwestern University when he was apprehended by police in 2015.
Officers attended the scene where Crosby had been attempting to fix a loose part on his vehicle after a woman called the police thinking he was a thief.
Crosby, now 28 and a PhD graduate, was on his way to the lab when he was confronted by the officers, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
