Spike Lee gets first ever best director Oscar nomination

The 61-year-old filmmaker's 2018 release BlacKkKlansman has earned him a place on the Academy Awards nominations list

SPIKE LEE has been nominated for a best director and a best picture Oscar for the first time in his career.

The 61-year-old, whose first feature film was released more than 30 years ago, has earned the nomination for his 2018 release BlacKkKlansman.

Based on a true story, BlacKkKlansman follows the story of a black police officer, played by John David Washington, who infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan.
