The Leamington Flyers moved into first place by cooling off the Chatham Maroons’ red-hot offence Sunday.
Flyers goalie Ryan Polidori made 33 saves in a 4-1 win before a crowd of 859 at Chatham Memorial Arena.
The Maroons’ loss ended their three-game winning streak. They began the streak with a 7-2 win over the Flyers one week earlier and scored 21 goals in the three victories.
They went 0-for-11 on the power play, including 0-for-6 in the third period.
Captain Dane Johnstone scored for the Maroons early in the second period to cut the Flyers’ two-goal lead in half. He has six goals during his four-game scoring streak and leads the team with 23 goals.
The Flyers added two goals in the third period. They went 2-for-5 on the power play and also had a short-handed goal.
Maroons goalie Tristan Lewis made 20 saves.
Ryan Gagnier, Colton O’Brien, Rory DiNiro and Cameron Armstrong scored for the Flyers (28-8-1-3), who moved one point ahead of the London Nationals in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Western Conference.
The Maroons (24-12-2-3) are in third place, seven points behind the Flyers with seven games left.
The Maroons will host the Komoka Kings at 7 p.m. Thursday and the Strathroy Rockets at 7 p.m. Sunday.
