The woman, who was found guilty of mutilating her daughter, faces a lengthy jail term
A MOTHER has become the first person in the UK to be found guilty of female genital mutilation (FGM) after she was convicted of mutilating her three-year-old daughter.
The 37-year-old woman, who is from Uganda, was on trial with her her partner, a 43-year-old Ghanaian man.
Her partner was acquitted by the jury.
The pair were arrested after they took the child to Whipps Cross hospital in Leytonstone, east London, in August 2017 and doctors deemed her serious injuries to be consistent with FGM, the partial or total removal of external female genitalia.
