Sajid Javid apologises to woman who faced deportation

The former teaching assistant was wrongly told that she could not receive help via the Windrush helpline

A WOMAN who faced deportation from the UK despite being eligible for help from the Windrush taskforce has received an apology from Sajid Javid.

Willow Sims, who came to the UK from the US when she was four years old, was wrongly denied assistance under the Windrush scheme.

Sims, a mother-of-two, had worked as a teaching assistant, but after she was unable to prove her right to live and work in the UK in response to a routine DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, she lost the ability to secure employment, the BBC reported.
