Illegal dumping is still causing headaches for the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) which today had to undertake a clean-up at a beach in Christ Church.
And it is again appealing to Barbadians to clean up their act.
A seven-member team led by Plant Superintendent Derek Brereton this morning cleared Long Beach, Silver Sands of household waste, clothing, mattresses and bed bases, laundry baskets and an air-conditioning unit, which had accumulated over a period of time.
The team took a relatively short time to clear the area, but Public Relations Officer at the SSA, Carl Padmore, said people had to stop their unsanitary habits.
“This practice must stop and we urge Barbadians to desist from this uncaring act. The Sanitation Service Authority had to pull its resources together to respond to this, and we removed three truckloads of garbage from this site,” he said.
“We at the SSA will continue to provide clean thoughts, clean living and a clean nation, as we advance and embrace Vision 2020,” Padmore added, as he also urged Barbadians to “show more care for our island, the gem of the Caribbean”.
