Boysie Folkes' daughter said the family were informed treatment would come at a cost because the 81-year-old left the UK for a number of years
AN ELDERLY member of the Windrush Generation was denied NHS treatment after being told he would have to pay for his care, his family have said.
Boysie Folkes suffers from amyloidosis, a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of abnormal protein in organs and tissues.
The 81-year-old arrived in the UK from Jamaica in the early 1950s and has a UK passport. But during a recent trip to the hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain and drastic weight loss, NHS staff informed Folkes that ongoing treatment would come at a cost, Birmingham Live reported.
