The Beat and General Public musician Ranking Roger dies

He passed away aged 56

RANKING ROGER Charlery, legendary founder member of The Beat, has died aged 56.

The musician, who performed with The Specials Dexy's Midnight Runners and later released records with his band General Public, died at home on Tuesday (Mar 26) surrounded by family, said a statement on The Beat's website.

The statement said of Charley’s ill-health that “he fought & fought & fought, Roger was a fighter."

It added: "Roger's family would like to thank everyone for their constant support during this tough time."
