London: The family of an American teenager killed aboard the MH17 flight launched a court case on Thursday against Russian banks and US money transfer companies for helping to finance pro-Moscow separatists accused of shooting it down over Ukraine. In a complaint filed by the family of Quinn Lucas Schansman — the only US citizen aboard the Malaysia Airlines flight — is based on a 1992 US law that allows American victims of terrorism to sue those who provide material support to terrorism. Virgin Atlantic drops emblem for diverse new look
London: Virgin Atlantic airline has announced that it was dropping its iconic ‘Flying Lady’ emblem in favour of five diverse ‘flying icons’ that more accurately ‘represent its customers and workforce’, the media reported on Friday. A black woman and a gay man in rainbow lycra are among the new faces making their debut on four of its new Airbus A350-1000 fleet, due to be unveiled later this year, it reported. IANS
Amal Clooney is UK special envoy on media freedom
London: The UK on Friday announced the appointment of a media freedom champion in prominent human rights lawyer Amal Clooney to counter draconian laws that hinder journalists from going about their work. The wife of Hollywood star George Clooney takes over as the UK Foreign Secretary’s Special Envoy on Media Freedom and Co-Chair of a High Level Panel of Legal Experts. Amal, 41, said she was honoured to have been hand-picked for the new role. PTI
