Ivy was nearly denied the opportunity to visit from Jamaica and attend the funeral of her 13-year-old grandson, whose campaign for a stem cell donor was supported by Raheem Sterling
THE HOME Office has overturned a decision to deny Damary Dawkins’ grandmother with a visa to enter the UK for his funeral.
Damary, 13, died from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia last month following a campaign to find a stem cell donor.
His grandmother, Ivy, who lives in Jamaica was initially refused a visa to enter the UK, meaning she would have missed Damary’s funeral this Friday.
“It is heartbreaking and cruel not to let Ivy say goodbye to her Grandson,” a statement from a petition published before the decision was reviewed stated.
