A 28-year-old Toronto man is facing charges after being clocked travelling nearly 200 kilometres per hour at one point by Chatham-Kent OPP before crashing on Highway 401.
The OPP said a complaint was received about a vehicle speeding while travelling east on Highway 401. Chatham-Kent OPP officers set up observation for the vehicle near the Essex County and Chatham-Kent border.
The OPP said the vehicle was captured on radar two separate times, including once travelling in excess of 195 kilometres per hour.
In the interest of public safety, the OPP said officers maintained observation on the vehicle, attempting to identify it or the driver while notifying additional units further east to watch for the vehicle.
OPP said the vehicle continued east and lost control near the 112-kilometre marker, entering the south ditch and rolling over.
The accused, who was the sole occupant, was taken to area hospital by ambulance to be treated for minor injuries.
He is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and stunt driving. He also had his driver’s licence suspended.
The accused is scheduled to return to court in Chatham on May 31.
