Saeed challenges arrest in terror financing cases

Lahore: Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, a UN designated Pakistani terrorist whom the US has placed a USD 10 million bounty on, challenged his arrest in the terror financing cases in the Lahore High Court here on Tuesday. Saeed is kept at the Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail in high security. The petitioners said JuD chief Saeed and others (67) were neither members of Lashkar-e-Taiba nor they had any nexus with it. They also cited some previous courts observations in this regard. AFP

Seoul to fine Volkswagen over 'illicit' devices

Seoul: South Korea said on Tuesday it would issue fines and file criminal complaints against Volkswagen and Porsche for installing "illicit devices" that helped multiple diesel vehicles cheat pollution standards. The certifications for eight models — including Audi A6, Volkswagen Touareg, and Porsche Cayenne — would would be revoked and the carmakers face an estimated fine of 11.5 billion won (US$9.5 million), the ministry said.
