Mexico City: Renowned rock climber, US national Brad Gobright, fell to his death while climbing a sheer rock face in northern Mexico. Gobright (31) and fellow American Aidan Jacobson (26) were climbing a route known as Shining Path in Nuevo Leon on Wednesday when they fell, the state’s emergency response agency said on Thursday. Witnesses said the men had finished climbing the 900-m summit and were rappelling back down when the accident occurred. Jacobson landed on a rock outcrop, but Gobright bounced off and fell another 300 m to his death, they said. AFP
K-pop star jailed for six yrs for gangrape, spycam crimes
Seoul: South Korean singer-songwriter Jung Joon-young was convicted on Friday of gangrape and distributing videos of the assaults and other sexual encounters and was jailed for six years in a scandal that has rocked K-pop. Jung and Choi Jong-hoon, a former member of boy band FT Island, were found guilty of gang-raping two different victims on two occasions in 2016. Jung was also convicted of filming himself having sex with other women without their knowledge. AFP
Japan ex-PM, who boosted ties with US, dies at 101
Tokyo: Former Japanese PM Yasuhiro Nakasone, an ardent conservative who worked to forge a stronger military alliance with the US, died on Friday at the age of 101. In office for five years from November 1982 to November 1987, Nakasone was known for trying to transform the nation defeated in World War II into a full-fledged member of the West during the Cold War era.
