Imran Khan in the soup for comment on judiciary

Lahore: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan for his “anti-judiciary” remarks. Tahir Maqsood, a Pakistani citizen, filed the petition on Saturday, seeking contempt of court proceedings. Khan recently criticised the Lahore High Court for overruling his government’s condition for Sharif to submit a Rs 700 crore indemnity bond for permission to fly abroad for treatment. PTI

US wants social media platforms to block Iran officials

Washington: The US has called on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to suspend the accounts of Iranian leaders until Tehran re-establishes internet coverage throughout the riot-torn country. Iran imposed a near-total Internet blackout more than a week ago amid violent protests. “It is a deeply hypocritical regime,” Brian Hook, special US representative for Iran, said in an interview with Bloomberg posted on the official State Department Twitter account. Suspected woman IS member returns to Germany

Frankfurt: A woman, believed to have belonged to the Islamic State (IS) group, and her three children have arrived back in Germany, the police said. The woman is the first adult female IS member to have been returned through official channels to Germany from Syria. Named only as Laura H, the 30-year-old from Hesse state arrived at Frankfurt airport late Saturday. AFP
