Broad wins three medals at Junior Pan Pacs

Broad wins three medals

SUVA, Fiji – Madison Broad of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks finished with three medals – two silver and one bronze – at the Junior Pan Pacific swimming championships.

Broad won silver with Canada in the women’s 4×100-metre medley relay in 4:05.21 on Sunday.

“This was a relay that had really good chemistry,” Broad said in a Swimming Canada news release. “We were excited about the race and it’s really nice to get a medal with these girls.”

Her teammates were Nina Kucheran of Sudbury, Maggie MacNeil of London and Ainsley McMurray of Cote-St-Luc, Que. The United States won gold in a meet-record time of 4:02.33.

Broad won her other silver Saturday in the 200 backstroke in 2:10.73.

“My race was very good,” the Wallaceburg native said. “I felt very smooth in the water and I felt I could actually go fast. On the last length I could slightly see the girl’s arms beside me so I tried to push it (a) bit more than I usually do and give it the max.”

She won bronze in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.53 on Thursday.

Canada ended the four-day meet with 12 medals: two gold, four silver and six bronze.
