Prelim to be set in murder case

The court process continues to move forward for a Wallaceburg woman facing a first-degree murder charge.

Kourtny Audette, 25, made a brief video appearance in a Chatham courtroom on Friday, following a judicial pre-trial that took place on Wednesday in chambers.

She was accompanied by Travis Hughes, acting as agent for Audette’s lawyer, Laura Joy. Hughes told the court the pre-trial “went well” and Joy requested that the matter be put over one week to schedule a preliminary hearing.

Audette was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear via video on Sept. 7 to have a date set for a preliminary hearing.

Audette is accused in the death of 24-year-old Nick Laprise.

There is publication ban on evidence presented during the proceedings.

However, according to previously published reports, emergency crews responded to a Book Street home in Wallaceburg around 6:30 p.m. on April 18.

A man, later identified as Laprise, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information has been released regarding how the father of two knew the woman who is accused of killing him.
