C-K police receive second call about same scam

Chatham-Kent police have received a second call regarding a scam some people are trying pull on local residents.

Police said a Chatham resident reported that he had been approached by two suspicious men driving a white Honda vehicle.

The resident told police the men claimed they ran out of gas and tried to sell him jewelry for cash or use his credit card.

Officers went to the area, but were unable to locate the men or their vehicle, police said.

Police recently received a call about the same type of occurrence happening in Wheatley. Police reported this incident involved two men in an older white Ford Explorer who were also offering jewelry for cash or to use the person’s credit card.

Police want to caution citizens to be wary of this scam that aims to take advantage of people’s generosity.

If a stranger approaches, police advise residents trust their instincts as they are usually right.

If the situation appears suspicious, use caution and call police immediately with physical descriptors of those involved along with a description of their vehicle, including licence plate, if possible.
