Final ride

Members of the Royal Barbados Police Force were kept busy along the south coast this afternoon after two vehicular accidents, one fatal, within the space of two hours.

The first accident occurred along Hastings Main Road in the Hastings Rocks area in which a lone motorcyclist lost his life.

Police Public Relations Officer, Station Sergeant Michael Blackman, said “We received a call around 1:10 this afternoon about an accident involving a motorcycle in Hastings. An ambulance was summoned and the ambulance crew, along with three nurses from a nearby health care facility, tried to help the rider of the motorcycle, who was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on arrival there.”

The cyclist’s name was not revealed, but he was said to be in his early 20s and was heading towards Bridgetown at the time of the
accident.

The second accident occurred just after 3 p.m. opposite the entrance to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s offices at Graeme Hall on the ABC Highway, where three cars collided.

The passengers in the two most extensively damaged cars, which included an elderly woman and a child, were all treated on the scene.

Police are investigating both incidents.
